message day 1037 ink.jpgThis file is named day 1037 ink.jpg. Ursa [wip, ink] Day 1037 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo this was a parking lot gesture sketch while my lovely bride got her hair trimmed. maybe half hour, 45 minutes. then i inked it with Staedtler pigment liner pens, first with 0.7 then followup with a 0.3 mm. this scan is of the bottom 11x11 inches of an 11x17 sheet of Office Depot branded smooth "translucent vellum paper". next i am thinking to draw the overhead limbs on the rear of the paper. something else i have done is ink the figure, ie the bear, on the front of the sheet and color the figure, ie the bear, on the rear of the sheet. i'd both ink and color the limbs for example on the rear of the sheet. so, once i get the bear portrait done i plan to extract the bear and use it in a mashup with some other ddc drawings i did. my own version of the "Peaceable Kingdom".

Grandstand Handstand [wip?] Day 1038 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo this was a 2B 0.5mm mech pencil gesture on 11x17 vellum paper, inked with a 0.5mm Staedtler pigment liner, all smudged with paper towel. not sure what if anything more i will do with this. lol.

message day 1044 5.jpgThis file is named day 1044 5.jpg. Elizabeth Montgomery "Facial Expressions" [wip] Day 1044 daily drawing challenge reference photo these are all drawn with 2B 0.5mm mech pencil on Strathmore "Toned Gray" Drawing Paper, drawn on two 12x9 sheets which are scanned and stitched together here. maybe there is a story in the way i sequenced or ordered the individual faces... lol. anyway, i figure to ink these with india ink pigment liner pens and then add some highlighting with white. drawing these was really worthwhile practice.
message day 1047 2.jpgThis file is named day 1047 2.jpg. It'd be nice to live in a world where mermaids were real and the oceans were clean. ---------- some days the long lost sailors wash ashore, some days they don't bother not to tell them to stay dry here ashore, for listen they won't ---------- Day 1047 daily drawing challenge reference photo another bedtime sketch. this is india ink from a staedtler pigment liner pen along with 6B Castells Jumbo 9000 graphite and General's White Charcoal all on Strathmore Toned Gray Drawing Paper 9x12. i was unhappy with the way my white highlights looked, was having trouble getting them to blend, so i ended up putting a tortillon in my electric eraser and did a "power smudge" on it. so i likely revisit this one more later.

Day 1050 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo (the diver) this is yet another bedtime sketch. drew this with a Staedtler 0.7 pigment liner pen i cut open and refilled with Higgin's Black India Ink over a Conte No2 Extra Fine Black Drawing Pencil gesture. tone/shading is from the same pencil and some highlighting with a Conte White Drawing Pencil, all smudged with chamois on 12x9 Strathmore Toned Gray Drawing Paper. probably ought to add some damage to the submarine if it's a sunken wreck... ;-)
message day 1051.jpgThis file is named day 1051.jpg. Bun Rab walks the wood late at night, Holding his little lantern up and alight. Seeking truth that hides from the light, If he finds it everything will be alright And Bun Rab can dance with delight! But alas, he likely won't find it tonight... -------- Day 1051 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo this is yet another bobster bedtime snack sketch. it is straight up (no pencils) Staedtler 0.7 pigment liner which i refilled with Higgin's Black India Ink, some Uni-ball Signo White pigment ink pen, and a touch of highlighter for the eyes, all on a 9x12 sheet of Strathmore Toned Gray Drawing paper. This one was just huge fun for me. at first i considered captioning it "Demosthenes Tularemia Hare seeks the rabbit hole." lol.
message day 1052.jpgThis file is named day 1052.jpg. Dawg Day 1052 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo it's supposed to be a corgi. lol. this was a bedtime sketch that i finished a bit ago, added the brown and some pink in the ears, reapplied some color for coverage and saturation. the basic sketch was done on Strathmore Toned Gray 9x12 Drawing paper using No2 Conte Extra Fine Black Drawing Pencil and Conte White Drawing Pencil. the brown/tan is a Prismacolor Drawing Stick, same lead as their pencils but more pastel stick shape and no wood. the "pink" in the ears is overkill from a touch of too dark Mungyo Soft Pastel. but here is the Dawg ;-) it isn't smudged because it may be revisited...

Teddy and Sproing [WIP almost done] concept from Day 1055 Daily Drawing Challenge reference photo, a jumping girl this is my ink. some of this started as No2 Conte Drawing Pencil base sketches, but the linework is Staedtler 0.7 pigment liner and the coloring is Speedball Super Pigmented Acrylic Inks (3 primaries red, blue, and yellow along with black and white all mixed and diluted as required) applied with a No3 round brush on Canson XL Recycled Drawing Paper 9x12. thinking about how to bring the girl forward? or is she ok? thinking about some feathering/hatching to add contour and shadows. to me, feathering is ok in black white or gray. also thinking about whether to go over all of it with a Prismacolor colorless blender pencil...
message day 1056 color ink.jpgThis file is named day 1056 color ink.jpg. cheetah day 1056 daily drawing challenge reference photo this is a No.2 Conte Extra Fine Drawing Pencil sketch inked with a Staedtler 0.7 pigment liner and india ink on Canson XL Recycled Multimedia Paper 9x12. it is colored using mixtures and dilutions from a three color palette, scarlet red, primrose yellow, and indigo blue, along with black and white Speedball Super Pigmented Acrylic inks. most of the ink was applied using a round No3 brush except the background which was done with a No7 round. (obviously by mixing these 3 colors you can easily obtain any of 6 nominal primaries, and you have black and white to darken or lighten any of the resulting shades.) so i have a couple of other pieces i was thinking to ink in similar fashion, so i will have to think about that a bit. the "Multimedia Paper" isn't the best for water based coloring. being decent quality paper it does go back to pretty flat once dry, so that's good, but it isn't remarkably better than the "Drawing Paper" for the ink. i think it is also somewhat whiter/brighter. been a LONG time since i have done any colors with inking, this second piece was a good wakeup. i more prefer mylar film, put the linework on one side, color it on the other. wasn't sure i was going to color this, and the colored ink has dulled my blacks.

message day 1104 wash.jpgThis file is named day 1104 wash.jpg. He pointed at the squirrel and giggled in his childish way, for such was after all the nature of children. The nanny, in her demanding tone, said sternly, "Ralphie boy, don't you know a squirrel ain't nothin but a rat with a bushy tail?" The derisive edge to the nanny's statements often cracked the child's fragile eggshell mind, and as he watched, the reflection of the squirrel in the bird feeder's water changed before his gaze, and he began to cry softly. The nanny said, "Kiddo you are somethin with that 'magination of yours. A squirrel is a squirrel. It's all OK boy." and she began to lead the child away. But as he looked, the reflection did not change. The squirrels were forever more to be seen as just another kind of rat. Sometimes he thought that the nanny was, after all, just another kind of rat too.
